At The West Seattle Tool Library, we have established borrowing policies to ensure a fair and positive experience for all members. These policies outline the guidelines and expectations for borrowing tools from our library. Please familiarize yourself with the following information to ensure a smooth borrowing process.
Membership Requirement
To borrow tools from The West Seattle Tool Library, you must be a registered member. We offer both free and paid membership options. Free membership grants access to our general tool collection, while paid membership provides additional benefits, including access to specialized tools. To become a member, please refer to our Membership Information page for registration details.
Borrowing Period
Each tool has a specified borrowing period, which indicates the duration for which you can keep the tool before it needs to be returned. The borrowing period varies depending on the tool and its demand. Most tools have a standard borrowing period of one to two weeks. Please check the specific borrowing period for each tool in our catalog or inquire with our staff during your visit.
Renewals
If you need more time with a borrowed tool, you may be able to renew the borrowing period, provided that no other members have placed a hold on the tool. To request a renewal, please contact us before the due date and inquire about the availability for renewal. Renewals are granted at the discretion of The West Seattle Tool Library and are subject to the demand for the tool.
Late Fees
Returning tools on time is essential to ensure fair access for all members. Late fees may apply if tools are returned after the due date. The specific late fees are as follows:
- For general tools: $1 per tool, per day.
- For specialized tools: $2 per tool, per day.
Late fees will accrue for each day that a tool is overdue, including weekends and holidays. It is important to note that late fees are intended to encourage prompt return of tools and to maintain availability for other members.
Tool Care and Responsibility
We kindly request that you care for the borrowed tools as if they were your own. Proper tool care ensures their longevity and availability for other members. Here are some guidelines to follow:
Cleanliness: Return tools in a clean and well-maintained condition. Wipe off any dirt, dust, or debris before returning them. Please follow any specific cleaning instructions provided with the tool.
Safe Handling: Use the tools responsibly and according to their intended purpose. Follow all safety guidelines and use protective equipment when necessary. If you are unsure about the proper use of a tool, seek assistance from our staff or refer to instructional resources.
Loss or Damage: As the borrower, you are responsible for the tools during the borrowing period. If a tool is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond normal wear and tear, please notify us immediately. Repair or replacement costs may apply depending on the circumstances.
Availability and Reservations
Our tools are available on a first-come, first-served basis. We currently do not offer tool reservations. We recommend visiting the library or checking our catalog regularly to see if the tool you need is available. Availability can change frequently due to high demand and returns.
Tool Donations
If you have tools in good working condition that you would like to donate to The West Seattle Tool Library, we welcome your contributions. Donated tools expand our inventory and help us better serve our community. Please visit our location during operating hours or contact us for more information on the donation process.
By adhering to these borrowing policies, you contribute to the smooth operation of The West Seattle Tool Library and help ensure that our tools remain accessible to all members. We appreciate your cooperation and responsible use of our resources.
If you have any further questions or need clarification regarding our borrowing policies, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our staff. We are here to assist you and provide an enjoyable tool borrowing experience.
